AIL Semi Final Clontarf – Young Munster

A semi final is a game that will stress your limits.

This was no exception. Clontarf started well but the early try spurred Young Munster on and the home side fell behind, after Younger Munster score 2 quick tries. Clontarf battled back with a penalty and a try on half time to turn the tide.

The second half saw Clontarf running the ball more and more and the visitors could not keep up. Clontarf then lost their way a bit and let in a try. this lead to a spirited but the fight back by Young Munster did not yield enough point for them. Clontarf then scored in the corner and with time running out Young Munster got one penalty try.

Well done ‘Tarf.

Final score 37 -29

Div 11 Final St Marys Clontarf

Clontarf J6 travelled to Templeville Road to try to win their league and Promotion to Div10 for the coming  season.

One thing for sure the locals were not going to let the match go. The first half ended up scoreless despite both teams offensive will the defences stayed tight.

The second half promised more of the same, Marys broke the deadlock with a penalty early on. Despite tiredness creeping in the defences were still tight when finally Clontarf’s replacement fly half dummied his way past the try line. St Marys were close to take the lead back with a long range penalty. With tired bodies on both side and time running out clontarf won a decisive counter ruck that saw the decisive and final try.

Well done to both team and coaches for a fine game of rugby.

Clontarf – UCD UBL

Clontarf was hosting UCD in the last regular season Game. With a home Semi-final on the line and the top 4 separated by 1 point and points difference there was a lot at stake for the home team.  There was a strong Breeze in favour of the visitors and they made good use of it capitalising on Clontarf errors and scoring at nearly every opportunity.  At half time things were looking poor for the hosts with the hope that with the wind in their favour they would be able to do more. This proved to be right and the Clontarf was able to put a lot of pressure on UCD and finally got the score board spinning in their direction. near the end of the second half UCD got a try but this was too late to make a difference.

Clontarf – St Mary’s David O’Connel Cup

Final of the David O’Connell Cup in Donnybrook

This games started very badly for Clontarf conceding a try to St Mary’s and getting a man sent off in pretty much the first act of the game.  Mary’s opened a significant gap thanks to the number  advantage and poor defending by ‘Tarf. The ‘Tarf men started to rally and got on the scoreboard only for Mary’s to reply in kind with another try.  On the stroke of halftime Clontarf had narrowed the gap significantly to 18 -16.

The second half saw Mary’s strike with a penalty however they could not capitalise and from then on the Touze (J2’s) from ‘Tarf seemed to have found a weakness in Mary’s defensive strategy scored 2 tries, Mary’s did not seem to be able to create much in the second half not from lack of trying. A penalty near the 75 minute made the score quite wide 36- 21 . A late rally from Mary’s did not yield any points.
