Clontarf made the small trip to Lansdowne Road hoping to retain their UBL title after a long season.
Clontarf started well and were rewarded with a penalty; Lansdowne replied in kind and after another bout of ‘tarf Pressure the visitors went ahead again.
Lansdowne then managed some sustained pressure and with a crossfield kick scored a try in the corner.
Half time saw the hosts leading by 2.
The second half started brightly for Clontarf and scrum pressure told for another penalty and a yellow card against a Lansdowne prop. Clontarf scoring 11 points 2 penalties and a try during a good period. 17 – 8.
The hosts confidence was not breached however and from a rolling maul scored another try to narrow the gap to 2 points. Another penalty edged the hosts ahead. Clontarf attacking proved sterile and the game ended a disapointing 18-17 to lansdowne.
