Clontarf – Cork Constitution

Nearly the end of the season and both Clontarf and Cork Constitution are chasing points to ensure a play-off spot.

Clontarf started the game against a very strong wind hoping to keep the score close until half-time.

Cork got on the board with a penalty soon followed by a converted try. Clontarf Struggled to take a foothold on the visitor 22 and managed a try in the corner and converted from a difficult position. Cork replied straight away with an unconverted try and then dropped a gaol to keep the score ticking. ‘Tarf managed another try and a penalty to narrow the gap to two points on the half time.

The second half saw the visitors struggle against the wind and Clontarf overtake them then open a wider and wider gap. With 10 minutes to go Clontarf concentration slipped and two yellows were conceded in quick succession. This led to Cork Con applying even more pressure trying to get something out of the game. Clontarf two men down managed to counter and score another try. This was however not the end of the game and cork attacked relentlessly to get a try and some hope with the game nearing the closing stages. After one more foray in the Cork 22 Clontarf lost the ball and the visitors snatched a try bonus at the death.
